It's safe to say that the nation is backing Marcel (he was in Blazin' Squad, you know)...

Oh, Marcel.

The new series of Love Island has been gracing our screens for just over a week, and things are really hotting up.

Living up to every expectation, we’ve been treated to a whole bunch of buff singles – and, so far, we’ve had man-stealing, tears and tantrums. Of course, we’ve also had our fair share of heartfelt scenes too. Well, it is called LOVE Island.

One person that seems to always be on our screens when we’re having an ‘aww’ moment is 31-year-old Marcel Somerville.

Although things got off to a pretty awkward start for the islander, it’s safe to say that he’s quickly become a firm favourite of the series.

Yup. So much so that he’s even been named a ‘national treasure’ by viewers on Twitter.

Sure, we all had a little LOL at the fact that he likes to name-drop his former involvement in noughties boyband Blazin’ Squad.

But now, the former teen star seems to have made it his mission to be the voice of reason and pillar of support for everyone in the villa – especially after all of the drama that kicked off during last night’s episode (which aired on 13th June).

Here’s what Twitter is saying…

Many have pointed out that, as soon as one of the girls starts to cry, he’s instantly there and armed with a hug.

Bless him.

Anyone noticed how Marcel appears out of nowhere every time a girl cries? What a hero! ❤️ #LoveIsland

Former islander Kady McDermott even took to her account to praise the new contestant, writing: ‘Please @LoveIsland find marcel the love of his life he is amazing’.

Aww.

We’re hoping for that too!
