Spring skin never looked so good

Forget moisturisation, start thinking hydration. Er, what? Even as someone with skin so dry it could put the Sahara to shame, I have no idea the difference between the two.  Enter Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost range.

When Neutrogena’s brainy scientists worked out that we were all doing hydration all wrong they set out to provide us a glossy new series of products that targeted all our skin woes.Too often people confuse dehydration with dryness –  so folks with dry skin are piling on creamy moisturiser and those prone to oiliness are avoiding moisturisers all together. Not good news for our skin, according to the boffins.  Apparently thanks to pollution, stress and changes in weather, we ALL need a boost of H20 – and regular moisturisers won’t cut it.

I get spots, flake like a snake and am super sensitive (sexy, right?) so if you need someone to test out skincare – I’m your girl. My bar sits pretty high. Neutrogena had me at hydration – seriously my skin loves the stuff. That said, I usually go towards a heavy cream as I assume that’s what my thirsty skin needs. Gel based products are just not my jam.  But the Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturiser, £12.99 glided on my skin and instantly soothed my rough, dull completion. My only bugbear? It stung slightly and stayed wet to touch for a good 20 mins – worth noting if you want to slap makeup on straight after.

While oily skin will be satisfied by Gel Moisturiser’s lightweight formula, fellow reptiles (hey!) should layer up with a heavier cream like the Hydro Boost Gel Cream Moisturiser, £12.99. After letting the Gel Moisturiser soak in, I applied the richer Gel Cream Moisturiser on top and the additional step made all the difference to my winter-weary skin. I’d fully recommend the double hydration hit to anyone with angry or post-treatment skin that’s begging for H20.

Even though I had already used the Hydro Boost Cleansing Facial Wipes, £4.99,  at the gym (full of frothy cleanser that instantly melted away my makeup) after a long day there’s nothing I look forward to more than a double cleanse. I started with the Hydro Boost Micellar Water –  lightly scented, hydrating and soothing on my skin – before moving on to the more hard-core Hydro Boost Water Gel Cleanser, £7.99. I’ll admit I was nervous about this one. Again, because I struggle with dry, sensitive skin, gel based cleansers give me the heebie jeebies. They tend to make my skin feel tight and raw – almost too squeaky clean. But this cleanser contains a patented cleansing technology combined with Hyaluronic Acid to make sure hydration stays locked in and skin remains super soft no matter how hard you scrub. It barely foamed (a good sign, too foamy and I find they strip my skin) and left my face feeling lovely, clean and lightly hydrated.

Cleansing and moisturising twice might seem like double the trouble but for overworked skin is the perfect way to make sure your complexion stays fresh, clean and clear. Now in the words of Ciara – everybody one, two step.
